Where does Hillary Clinton really stand re: black youth?
Past quotes from Hillary Clinton have come forth that could demolish her support from the African-American community, assuming they get reported and assuming the African-American community cares (I'll blog on that another time).
Her specific comments:
"They are often the kinds of kids that are called 'super-predators,' " Hillary Clinton said then. "No conscience, no empathy. We can talk about why they ended up that way, but first we have to bring them to heel."
This came to the public's attention because a young African American woman brought it up at a $500 per person fundraiser Ms. Clinton was having. She and a friend paid to get in, then put up a banner with part of that quote and asked Ms. Clinton to explain it. The video is quite popular now.
See the video and some really good contextual commentary by Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8k4nmRZx9nc
The background - in 1996, Ms. Clinton made those remarks. It was in the context of the Federal Government applying a new law to crack down on crime. Ironically, Ms. Clinton in this election criticized Sen. Bernie Sanders for voting in favor of that Federal Crime Bill - that President Bill Clinton signed into law, and then used to take credit for reducing crime.
The next day, Ms. Clinton has expressed regrets for the remarks she made in 1996.
Wow, is there any way a Conservative or a Republican (they are not the same) could get away with remarks like those? We'll have to see if anyone in the African American community has real principles like the young women who had the courage to raise this issue at Ms. Clinton's fundraiser.
