On Critical Race Theory - I stand with President Obama

In 2008, as a candidate for the office of President, Senator Barack Obama became embroiled in a controversy.  The pastor at the church he and his family attended, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, offered a sermon with strong, negative views about the United States of America.  The sermon expressed points that align directly with what is called "Critical Race Theory" today.   Opponents of then Senator Obama, both his political opponents and opponents in the media, suggested that because Senator Obama and his family attended that Church for a long while the Senator must share the views expressed by Reverend Wright. Obama gave a speech in response.  In that speech he started out expressing hope for America.  That hope was based on his "unyielding faith in the decency and generosity of the American people.  But it also comes from my own American story."  He then recounted that story - "son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas" raised...

My take on Amazon going to NY

I think Amazon going to NY is a good thing for a couple of reasons.  It should be good for NY and it should be good for America if elected officials recognize just what happened here.  Ironically, Jeff Bezos may end up the loser here. Amazon going to NY city is good for the city because it creates jobs.  Before there are the jobs with Amazon, there will be construction jobs building the Amazon location.  Then you can bet there will be other growth around that area creating more construction work.  There will be jobs for people to clean and maintain Amazon's building and any new surrounding buildings.  There will need to be jobs for people filling the vending machines in the Amazon building.  When the Amazon employees get tired of eating out of the machines, they will need restaurants and delis and pizza places.  The jobs story doesn't stop there.  Amazon ships stuff - a lot of stuff.  That means trucks and cars and planes and train...

The travesty of American business

The travesty to which I refer is the way American businesses treat U.S. workers and the movement of jobs either outside the US or bringing foreigners into the US to replace American workers. Cases in point  http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/03/02/ibm_layoffs/ IBM - which should change it's name to India Business Machines for the amount of work it has shifted to India by laying off thousands of American workers.  The job layoffs mentioned in that article are only the latest.  Dell did a similar thing after purchasing Perot Systems.  They took a company that was predominantly American and launched a process of "leveraging" which was a fancy way of saying moving work off shore to India, the Phillipines, and other parts of the world. Carrier heating is moving jobs from Indiana to Mexico it was announced earlier this year. Then there is Disney, who laid off IT workers so they could outsource the jobs to another company.  Those jobs went to people f...
