Trump is taking over the Smithsonian! HORRORS!!!

The headline from Democracy Now! calls it "Whitewashing of History."  The network formerly known as MSNBC had a headline saying President Trump is rewriting history.  CNN's headline says "Trump's 'chilling effect' is coming for museums..."  The Independent claims Trump is purging Smithsonian Exhibits, the sub-headline claims "White House said it would begin reviewing Smithsonian exhibitions to ensure they align with Trump's agenda." The reason for the reaction from the press is that Trump issued an Executive Order, on March 27, calling for essentially a review of the Smithsonian Institution.  The Executive Order said "Museums in our Nation's capital should be places where individuals go to learn - not be subjected to ideological indoctrination or divisive narratives that distort our shared history." Adding fuel to the fire, on August 19, President Trump posted on Truth Social a statement "The Smithsonian is OUT OF CON...

On Critical Race Theory - I stand with President Obama

In 2008, as a candidate for the office of President, Senator Barack Obama became embroiled in a controversy.  The pastor at the church he and his family attended, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, offered a sermon with strong, negative views about the United States of America.  The sermon expressed points that align directly with what is called "Critical Race Theory" today.   Opponents of then Senator Obama, both his political opponents and opponents in the media, suggested that because Senator Obama and his family attended that Church for a long while the Senator must share the views expressed by Reverend Wright. Obama gave a speech in response.  In that speech he started out expressing hope for America.  That hope was based on his "unyielding faith in the decency and generosity of the American people.  But it also comes from my own American story."  He then recounted that story - "son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas" raised...

The difference between Republicans and Democrats - updated and expanded*

The late Gov. George Wallace said "There's not a dime's worth of difference between the Democrat and Republican parties."  That may have been true in the 1960s but it's not true today.  Let's look at some of the differences. On stimulating the economy - Democrats believe they know best how to spend my money.  Example: the $900 billion stimulus package enacted by Democrats in 2009 and the proposed $3 trillion stimulus offered by President Joe Biden now. Republicans believe I know best how to spend my money.  Example: tax cuts by President Reagan, President George W. Bush, President Donald Trump, all resulting in booming economies rebounding us out of recessionary periods. On racism - When Republicans heard the racist comments by US Representative Steve King (R-Iowa), they urged him to resign and stripped him of his committee assignments.**   Democrats?  Recently a Texas party leader made a racist comment about Sen. Tim Scott.  He offered to resign,...

Black Lives Do Matter - so what do we do about it?

I am not a fan of the organization that goes by the name "Black Lives Matter" but I am in complete agreement with the concept that Black Lives Matter.  There are three events in recent months that should be rallying points for all people to come together and recognize it is time to not just protest but offer ideas on how to do more to end the inequality that still exists in America. The events I refer to are: The killing of Ahmaud Arbery - in Georgia a young man killed for no apparent reason while he was jogging and then the local police and local DA find no reason to charge the perpetrators The killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis  Learning of the higher impact of the Coronavirus on black communities All Americans, regardless of color, deserve to be viewed as individuals and not by skin color, religion, or any other grouping.  All Americans deserve the same opportunity, the same treatment and respect, the same justice.  Unfortunately, the three events I ...

New Words for the English Language

It seems that any time a person opposes something they are labeled - at least that happens to Conservatives.  Racist, misogynist, Islamophobic, Homophobic are terms tossed out when a Conservative stakes out a position in opposition to something the Democrats propose.  I'd like to offer some words that can be applied the other direction. Ameriphobia - I'm adapting the definition of the word Homophobia* here to define Ameriphobia as: dislike of or prejudice against the United States of America irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against the United States of America and it's government fear, hatred, or mistrust of the United States and anything it does as an official action. I debating whether to use LEOcism or LEOphobia for my second term - The LEO part of the word stands for Law Enforcement Officer and refers to any governmental official with a duty to uphold and enforce the law, whether those be federal, state or local.  The definition would be si...

An Historical Perspective on the terms used today

A very well thought out statement by Mark Levin on the Media's criticism of President Trump: SEAN HANNITY: Joining us now, he is the host of CRTV's Levin TV. The host of Life, Liberty, and Levin. Wow. You had big ratings this weekend right here on the Fox News Channel. I call him the great one, Mark Levin. We missed you a couple of weeks and we're glad you are back, my friend. Let's talk the election. MARK LEVIN: Thank you. Well, you know, it's time for we the people to stand up for ourselves, for our families, for our faith, for our country, for our party, and for our president. You know, the media had interposed themselves in this election, Sean. We're actually fighting the media. We're fighting the Democrats, we're fighting academia, we're fighting Hollywood and all the rest. And 64 percent of the voters say the press has done more to divide the country. More people think the press has divided the country than ...

Racism rears its ugly head

Republicans call for the next President to appoint the replacement for Justice Scalia.  Know why they want to do that?  Politics?  Nope.  They want a Conservative on the Court?  Nope. They said that because they are racists.  Yep.  That's the case being made now. Oppose President Obama on anything and the only reason you are doing so is because you are a racist. People wonder why President Obama could not find common ground with the Republicans.  Perhaps it is because there is no respect for the opinions expressed by Republicans.  If you believe every opposition is racist and not because there are valid reasons for disagreement then it is hard to find common ground. http://www.gopusa.com/?p=5848?omhide=true http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com/2016/02/hillary-clinton-implies-racism-to-blame-for-republicans-effort-to-block-obama-supreme-court-pick.html/

Racism in America - another view

It is interesting to read this comment by Ben Carson. Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson says he's faced more discrimination because he's a black conservative than because of his race alone. http://tinyurl.com/p3gm5xu Having seen similar remarks made about Justice Thomas and other conservative African Americans, Ben Carson put words to what others have experienced. If Ben Carson were elected President, could we label all the hosts on MSNBC as racists if they disagree with his views?
