Hey Zohran - why not this idea for a supermarket?

Zohran Mamdani, NY State Assemblyman and candidate for NYC Mayor, has suggested the idea of City run supermarkets.  Specifically, Mr. Mamdani proposes five supermarkets, one in each NY City Borough and all run by the City of New York.  The idea would be to provide low-cost food to underserved New Yorkers. It sounds like a good idea.  I think Mr. Mamdani should do it but in a slightly different way.  I suggest Mr. Mamdani create a non-profit organization.  Mr. Mamdani can then create a business plan describing how the supermarkets would work.  To show his support for the idea, Mr. Mamdani should put his money where his mouth is - pony some of his own cash and money from his family. With seed money, a business plan and the offer of tax-deductions, Mr. Mamdani can then start tapping his friends - including the ones who attended his wedding in Uganda, they are not paupers.  Mr. Mamdani can also reach out to supporters, like the billionaire hedge fund...

Random thoughts on current stories

Start off positive.  Two things President Biden has done right with Executive orders.  First, the Buy American order.  He promises to use federal dollars to buy from American manufacturers and companies.   Second, he promises to replace the current fleet of US Government vehicles with electric cars.  About time someone did that.  In the long past, I wrote a blog challenging government officials who were truly concerned about climate change to stop yapping and do something about it and one of the things they could do is create a bigger market for electric cars by insisting their government agencies buy them rather than gas powered cars. Two attaboys for President Biden for those.  Because I wanted to start positive, I won't address the other Executive Orders, many of which aren't worth crap.  But I will get snarky now. Now he says it Department - Anthony Fauci goes on Fox News and says "...after that [NY Times] interview I said to ...

Damn Government gave me a lousy $1250 while they handed millions to "Big Companies"

A friend posted a meme on Facebook titled "Trickle Down Economics" and it offers the following facts.  $2.3 trillion was spent in stimulus this year That's $23,000 per working age adult (assuming 100 million such adults) The meme goes on to say but "you got 1,200 per person & big companies got the rest." The meme wraps up by showing President Trump's signature, clearly intending to hold him responsible for this atrocity. I did something I rarely do on Facebook.  I posted a reply to something political.  Here is a version of my answer. In 2008 when 10 million Americans* were losing their homes, how many people got a check in any amount?  No one.  Who did get checks in the bailout packages?  AIG, Wall Street financiers, and the big banks - all of whom were involved in causing the economic meltdown. Contrast that with what happened this year, 2020.  What happened to the average American: Every American with incomes below a certai...

Riddle me this...

Some random thoughts This morning I saw, for the first time, the advertisement by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg complaining about violence and division in the Country and calling on all Americans to vote Democratic to bring back peace and bipartisanship. Riddle me this Batman, what in the last two years leads Mayor Bloomberg to think a Democrat majority in either or both Houses of Congress will lead to peace and bipartisanship?  Was it the calls of Rep. Maxine Waters, Sen. Corey Booker, Hillary Clinton, and Eric Holder for people to get abusive toward Republicans?  Was it Nancy Pelosi's statements that if Democrats win the House then anyone who disagrees with them will be at best ignored and just become collateral damage for the next two years? A growing cry among Democrats is Medicare for all.  It was started by Senator Bernie Sanders and has been picked up by liberal Democrat candidates around the country. Riddle me this Batman, if Medicare is so great then why...
