Random Thoughts about the Corona Virus

1. Opening the country by Easter - President Trump said he'd like to open the country by Easter.  The media responded that President Trump was planning on ignoring medical advice and open the country too soon, putting American lives at risk. Bazinga - The President today announced that the medical advisers recommend to keep the country shut down to the end of April and he agreed.  All the media's speculation was typical of those suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome. 2. Aid to Europe from China - Today a reporter asked cited the aid given to Europe by China and asked if the US would match that.   If I were President Trump, I would have responded, "Well if you mean sending defective PPE that are being returned en mass and tests that produce 80% false results, then no the United States will not match that level of support." 3. Navy Hospital ships - A couple of weeks ago, President Trump announced Navy Hospital ships would be going to New York and ei...

We have a President who cares about the little guy

Sitting here watching President Trump run down a list of what is being done for the average Americans and small businesses to help weather the current Corona virus situation.  Anyone who thinks President Trump cares only about big business is a moron or is just so partisan they don't want to listen. Free medical services - Today, the President announced that Humana and Cigna announced they will cover medical services related to Corona virus without copayment, coinsurance or deductible.  These services will covered 100% with no financial payment due from the individual.  That means no possibility of medical bankruptcy due to Corona virus.  I believe Aetna has previously done the same thing.  That was done at the Trump team's request.  These multi-billion dollar companies will take a significant financial hit and they are doing at the President's request to help average people who may be unfortunate enough to get this virus. Bringing back tax deductions f...

Coronavirus response: Evaluating the criticisms of President Trump

It's abundantly clear that the majority of the media is seeking to use the Coronavirus situation to try to create panic and despair in order to damage President Trump's chances for re-election.  When President Trump tries to promote hope and optimism, the media says it's all lies.  When Governor Cuomo says the same thing, it's all true.  I wanted to review some of the criticisms made and offer a contrary point of view on President Trump and his team's handling of the Coronavirus situation. 1. Hospitals lack personal protection equipment, like masks - In business when there is a problem that can't be fixed with a snap of your fingers you try to find an immediate solution, then a short term solution and a long term solution.  That's what the Trump team did. Immediate solutions: Recommend ways to conserve what you have and identify alternative masks (e.g. bandannas). Short term solution: get the law changed very fast to allow use of construction masks and...

The Media is not Liberal

Stop calling the media liberal.  Those in the media who deny they are liberal, are correct - they are not liberal.  I'd actually respect them more if they were.  But I can tell you what they are. They are Democrats.  They are an extension of the Democrat party.  Not officially but willingly. The media is not liberal, nor can you say they represent any other political ideology.  To link a person to a specific political ideology you need to define the beliefs of that ideology and then demonstrate the person almost uniformly follows that ideology.  The media generally does not meet this test. Yes the media generally supports more government, a general definition of a liberal.  But their position is not consistent.  To paraphrase John Kerry, they are for more government until they are against more government.  On the other hand, the position the media uniformly follows is whatever position the Democrat Party takes.  Let's get spec...

When will we see the apologies?

CNN Reports the firing of Puerto Rico's emergency manager on Saturday.  The firing occurred after a warehouse filled with supplies from Hurricane Maria was discovered.  That was the hurricane that hit the island two years ago.  Now I'm waiting to see if anyone apologizes to President Trump for the criticism directed at him regarding the relief efforts. During the post-hurricane disaster relief effort, the media and some local Puerto Rico politicians complained about the lack of supplies.  There were complaints about how many people died due to the lack of food and water.  Now we find that a Puerto Rico government agency was hoarding supplies for over two years. So I ask again, when will we see the apologies to President Trump or at least to the men and women of the Federal agencies like FEMA, the Coast Guard and the US Navy, that worked so hard to get those supplies to the Island, and an admission that the problem two years ago was the ineptitude and possi...

Difference between Donald Trump and Democrats - Middle East edition

I was reading the reaction of the Democrat candidates for President to the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani and the events of the last few days dramatically brought out the differences between Democrats and President Trump. To set the stage for the comparison.  In recent days, an American working as a contractor was killed in attacks on American bases in Iraq.  The Americans retaliated.  Then the American Embassy in Baghdad was attacked by a group backed by Iranians.  Finally yesterday, a US drone strike attacked a convoy and killed General Soleimani and Iranian militia leaders. Let's compare the events in Iraq prior to the attack on General Soleimani versus what happened in Benghazi during the Obama/Biden/Clinton watch. In Benghazi, the American Embassy was overrun, the American Ambassador was killed.  A second American government office was attacked and only escaped being overrun because of the actions of contractors and government offici...

Differences between the Democrats and "The Donald"

Almost anyone will tell you there are stark differences between Democrats and President Donald Trump.  I thought I'd call out some differences in a way that I have not seen anyone else do.  Two comparisons, one looking "back" to compare what the Democrats did to stimulate the economy under President Obama versus what President Trump did.  The other comparison looks forward - what is President Trump promising to do on the subject of jobs versus what the Democrat candidates for President are promising to do if they are elected.  But let's start with the look back. In 2009, President Barack Obama was sworn into office and joining him was a huge Democrat majority in the U.S. House and a "filibuster-proof" majority in the U.S. Senate.  Upon taking office, President Obama and the Democrats were faced with an economy in shambles.  They made it a top priority to develop and pass legislation in 2009 to stimulate the economy. In 2016, President Trump was sworn in...
