Different thoughts about Jeffrey Epstein
Jeffrey Epstein is arrested and charged for some of the really sleazy things he's done in the past and when I look at the top stories in Google's News section, they are all about either Donald Trump's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein or calling for Alex Acosta to resign as Labor Secretary because of his prosecution of Mr. Epstein over 10 years ago. Let's talk about some different topics.
First, a different look at the Donald Trump/Jeffrey Epstein Relationship. Many of the crimes allegedly committed by Jeffrey Epstein occurred in Florida. Neither the Florida Attorney General, nor the local prosecutors charged Mr. Epstein with any crime whatsoever. The Justice Department of President George W. Bush were the ones who reached the allegedly crappy deal with Jeffrey Epstein. That occurred in 2008 - right before Barack Obama was elected President. The Justice Department under President Obama did not, during the entire 8 years of his Administration, re-open that case. Nor did any of the Florida prosecutors seek to investigate or charge Mr. Epstein after the conviction obtained by the Bush Administration.
Riddle me this Batman - The Justice Department of which President is now re-opening the case and prosecuting Jeffrey Epstein? Why that would be the Justice Department of President Donald J. Trump. Why isn't anyone pointing that out and giving credit where credit is due?
Also, consider all the previous points. The Florida State and Local prosecutors did not prosecute Jeffrey Epstein, even after the newspaper story pointing out the allegedly crappy deal (albeit supposedly great deal for Mr. Epstein). The Obama Administration never re-opened the case during its 8 years and Mr. Epstein was widely known for running the "Lolita Express."
Rather than just assuming the deal negotiated by Alex Acosta was horrible, why doesn't someone dig into the facts that were available in 2007 and 2008 and tell us what could the Justice Department have done differently at that time?
Are we convicting Labor Secretary Alex Acosta without evidence of negotiating a bad plea deal? Are we saying that who cares whether there was evidence to charge Jeffrey Epstein at the time, he should have been charged anyway?
I understand it's politics talking on those latter two points but screw politics. Isn't it time for someone to remember our Country's principals - that our Government doesn't charge people without evidence, whether it be Jeffrey Epstein for his horrible actions or Alex Acosta for negotiating what may have been the best deal the Government could get at that time.
