Deportations and Tariffs - odds and ends

1.  Deportations

A common refrain from the ACLU*, and their Democrat and media allies is to say the illegal alien "has no criminal record" when objecting the Trump Administration's efforts to deport that person.  The statement may be true, but the statement was also true about the following individuals:

  • Jose Ibarra had no criminal record prior to being arrested for the murder of Laken Riley.
  • Victor Martinez-Hernandez had no criminal record prior to being arrested for the murder of Rachel Morin
  • Jing Ming-Long had no criminal record until he was arrested for sex trafficking
  • Mark Anthony Scaffe had no criminal record until he was arrested for rape and indecent assault and battery all involving a child under 14 years of age.
Why isn't the fact that these individuals aren't supposed to be in the United States enough of a reason to deport them?  Why do the ACLU, Democrats, and the Media want to wait until an illegal alien has a criminal record before that person can be deported?

The Biden Administration allowed millions of immigrants into our country illegally - Karoline Leavitt said today at her press briefing it may be as many as 20 million.  If we have to wait until everyone of them has a criminal record imagine the harm that will occur to women and children and our society with all of the crimes that would be committed.

2. Tariffs

Democrats have long complained about Republicans helping the top 1% at the expense of the middle class.  They should be complimenting President Trump for the tariffs he adopted.

  • The top ten billionaires who supported President Trump lost $10 billion.**
  • The world's 500 richest people lost $500 billion in two days.***

A complaint about Tariffs is that these will be passed on to consumers.  Let's unpack that statement.

  • Imported product reaches a US port
  • The company sending the product to the US pays the tariff
  • That cost is passed on to the company buying the product
  • The company that purchased the product adds the cost of the tariff to the price the consumer will pay.
Question - how is that scenario different than corporate taxes assessed by the US Federal, State, and Local governments.  If reducing or eliminating tariffs means consumers will pay less for products, shouldn't we consider reducing or eliminating the Federal, State and Local taxes on businesses too?

* Often they are the legal counsel for illegal aliens seeking to avoid deportation.
